having to make it worse by making it my responsibility to take care of

Isn’t it time for people to take responsibility for there own actions?
Just imagine prosecuting the teller of a bank that was robbed for armed robbery.
She wasn’t there — but someone that looks like her gave the assailant the money!
So in some convoluted way it’s her fault, plus she is easy to find and prosecute so that we look good and just to make sure, we will refuse to hear the fact that she was in the hospital that day for bypass surgery.
God forbid, that the actual facts come out and we hold the criminal responsible.
